Polito Studio China on the podium at the Jinyun competition

The group formed by professionals from the Polito Studio project, professors and researchers from the Department of Architecture and Design – China Room at the Polytechnic University of Turin, the Design Institute at South China University of Technology (SCUT) and Shanghai Sishi Business Consulting won second place overall in the Jinyun YangTanTou District Urban Design Competition, an international urban design competition promoted by the municipality of Jinyun (Zhejiang Province, China).
The result, achieved in early September among more than 80 participants from around the world, confirms the strength of the collaboration between the academic and professional worlds and reinforces the role of Polito Studio and the Polytechnic University of Turin as leaders in high-profile international contexts.

Alongside DAD and the China Room research laboratory, Polito Studio played an important role in developing the project proposal, consolidating its mission: to offer teams of young professionals the opportunity to collaborate with the University on concrete international projects. The initiative, born from an agreement between the Association of Architects of Turin and the Polytechnic University of Turin, is now in its fifth year and represents an innovative model of collaboration between universities and the profession.
The proposal, entitled “Shanshui Jinyun District: An Urban Living Room of Culture and Vitality”, envisaged the area as a large urban park integrating river landscape, agricultural spaces, and new public facilities, transforming the YangTanTou riverfront into an ecological and connective system for the city.
The YangTanTou riverfront is thus transformed into a large park animated by cultural, commercial, and outdoor sports activities, where public space becomes the true ecological backbone of the area: it regulates building distribution, connects agricultural fields and green areas, and promotes pedestrian mobility, while ensuring a smooth connection with other urbanised neighbourhoods in Jinyun.

This recognition confirms the synergy between professional firms and the Polytechnic University in addressing the global challenges of urban design, strengthened by long-standing collaboration with Chinese partners such as South China University of Technology (SCUT) and Shanghai Sishi Business Consulting Co., Ltd.
